As the name of the region it indicates, the river Tiétar is the constituent essential one of the same one; to it there go a high number of rivers, throats and creeks that go down, for the straight bank, from the steep tops of the saw of Gredos and cross the whole strip of land that constitutes the region of north on south. In general, the valley is formed by a wide plain in the proximities of the river by whose course there were evacuated the waters that were covering, in the age later to the glaciations, a part of those who were covering the peninsula towards the Atlantic Ocean. From the action of the nature in these distant moments they have come up to us, close to eroded mounds, this marvel that there form the stalactites and stalagmites of the Caves of the Eagle, in the municipal term of Arenas de San Pedro. After this flat zone close to the river, the area rises progressively from the piedmont plain up to obtaining levels with tops that come to more than 2.000 meters of height in diverse points of the saw.
